This past Monday, I spent five hours shadowing a Physical Therapist for the first time ever. I was excited to see the side of outpatient therapy that I’d never seen before. I hoped to help solidify the notion that I want to become a Physical Therapist in my future. I went into the office expecting to see some patients, watch the therapist go over exercises, and maybe some manual therapy. To my surprise, I found myself fully engaged in each visit. I was able to talk to patients and hear their stories while learning and conversing with the therapist. Patients presented with conditions such as sciatica, herniated lumbar disk, cervical radiculopathy, and rehab for after a total knee replacement. My time spent there was much better than I could have hoped. I learned so much in just a short amount of time. I’ve set up another five hours of shadowing for next Monday and am excited to see what that time will show.
